Local transportation service is coming to Desert Ridge.
The smaller city buses, or circulators, are sure to cut down on traffic and make life more convenient for residents, visitors and shoppers in northeast Phoenix.
The master-planned community is expected to have five circulators in about 12 months.
"The growth has been totally phenomenal," said Nick Meris, vice chairman of the Desert Ridge Homeowners’ Network and member of a committee that will help decide on the routes and stops. "The focal point is to move people from one area to another without them having to get in their car, driving a short distance and then having difficulty finding a place to park."
The service will be a boon to residents of the 5,700-acre community that now has about 2,500 homes and a vibrant mix of commercial and retail development.
Shoppers at Desert Ridge Marketplace, one of the community’s cornerstones, will also likely benefit from the service, which would mirror the service already available in Ahwatukee and downtown Phoenix.
